Police investigate disappearance of 1,300 live fowls worth N8m

The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the disappearance of 1, 300 live fowls valued at over N8 million.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), a Superintendent of Police, Omolola Odutola said that police have started quizzing 56-year-old Abiola Olumuyiwa, who is supposed to be minding the hen house.

The Director of Libro Farm Bambose, where the fowls went missing brought the complaint before the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), a Chief Superintendent of Police, Kola Akande.

Odutola said: “The 1,300 fowls were kept under the care of  Abiola Olumuyiwa, 56, of Agbaja Zone 3 off Akute Road Olodo Ibadan. He was employed on the 28th of January 2023 to look after the hen house.

“On the 11th of August 2023, when the fowls were counted, the director discovered that about 1,300 valued at N8m could not be accounted for. The farm director is pained at the enormous havoc done to the poultry farm. The suspect when asked if any death or disease attacked the livestock, he replied to no.

“A Preliminary investigation has commenced, and the suspect has been apprehended and is presently in police custody to ascertain the extent or veracity of Abiola’s theft if he was stealing from the poultry farm and selling or eating them, all that will be made known soon to members of the public.”
