A 94-year-old herbalist has been arrested for defiling a 13-year-old girl in Adamawa State.

The perpetrator, Mohammed Abubakar, was alleged to have rubbed a fluid into the girl’s private part before penetrating her.

It was further gathered that the defilement would have gone unnoticed if not for the fact that the girl fell sick following the incident and had to confess her past ordeal to her mother.

The Adamawa Police Public Relations Officer, a Superintendent of Police, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, while confirming the incident, said that the State’s Commissioner of Police, Afolabi Babatola, was seriously vexed by the action of the old man.

The CP had ordered a thorough and clinical investigation into the matter, which culminated in the arrest of the grandpa on the 18th of August 2023.

The PPRO said: “Adamawa State Police Command on 18th of August apprehended a 94-year-old man for raping a 13-year-old minor in Tappare ward, Ganye local government area.

“The suspect, one Mohammed Abubakar, 94 years old in Tappare ward, Ganye Local Government Area. The suspect who is identified as an herbalist, is said to have been in the habit of deceiving young females by giving them confectionaries.

“It happens that on the 12th of August, while the victim was passing by the suspect’s house, he called her into the house and took advantage of her by having an unlawful carnal knowledge of her.

“Investigation so far reveals that the suspect while committing the act rubbed some concoction in the form of perfume on the victim. Which made the victim ill after the incident. It was a result of the illness that led to her asking her questions.

“The child opened up to her mom about what had happened. The incident was reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters Ganye, by the mother of the victim.

“The CP, who frowns at the ugly incident has directed the officer in charge of the Family Support Unit of the command to take over the investigation and ensure diligent prosecution of the perpetrator.

“The Police boss equally calls on the members of the public particularly parents to be watchful of their wards against criminally minded elements and key into the Command’s effort in fighting to end all forms of gender-based violence.”
