PROMAD calls for citizens’ empowerment on accountable governance ahead of CoSP10 in Atlanta

PROMAD, a leading Nigerian civic tech organisation has called for youth and community empowerment on accountable governance ahead of its participation in the tenth session of the Conference of State Parties (CoSP10) by the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC).

Daisi Omokungbe, PROMAD’s Founder and Executive Director who is representing the organisation at the conference said citizen participation and demand for accountability are essential in the fight against corruption.

The conference scheduled to be held between December 11-25, 2023 in Atlanta, Georgia, United States will bring together state parties, civil society organizations and academia from more than 190 countries.

He is expected to participate in the pre-events, main plenary sessions and side events that are in tandem with the organisation’s thematic areas and initiatives

“Specifically, I be will participating in the Young Change Makers event; Civil Society Forum; New Technologies and Public Funds Integrity: Experiences; Digitizing Public Procurement for Integrity and CSOs’ Role in Coordination between UNTOC-UNCAC Implementation,” he said.

“Others include Action Now: Combating Corruption to Protect the Environment; Addressing the Enforcement Gap; Implementing Beneficial Ownership Reforms: Global Frameworks and Strengthening Democracy through Civic Monitoring amongst other important sessions.

“During the major plenary, Mr Omokungbe will join other participants from Nigeria to promote open government, open public procurement and beneficiary ownership transparency in line with Nigeria’s action plan for the conference.”

The statement added that he will monitor commitments made by state parties, including Nigeria during the conference for PROMAD to track implementations, support state institutions and empower the youth constituency and communities to participate in governance and hold public institutions and duty-bearers accountable in Nigeria.

He also added that the organisation will leverage the conference to meet donor partners to strike new partnerships and collaborations on advancing accountability and transparency in governance in Nigeria.

He expressed appreciation to international development partners for their support toward PROMAD’s participation in COSP10 by UNCAC.
