The Nigerian Navy has reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding the nation’s territorial waters, emphasising that robust maritime security is the backbone of Nigeria’s economic stability and oil production.
https://securitynewsalert.com gathered that the pledge was made by the outgoing Commander of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Victory, Commodore Ajomabi Oride, during a colourful passing out parade and handing over ceremony held recently at the Navy Command in Calabar.
Speaking to officers and guests, Commodore Oride highlighted the strategic importance of the maritime sector.
He noted that the Navy’s primary objective remains the provision of a secure environment that allows business activities to thrive and ensures the uninterrupted production of crude oil, Nigeria’s economic lifeblood.
“The maritime sector plays a significant role in Nigeria’s economic growth, and protecting it is a critical, non-negotiable role for the Nigerian Navy,” the Commander stated.
The event marked a historic transition for the NNS Victory. Following the formal signing of handover documents, Commodore Oride, the 28th Commander, officially transferred authority to Commodore Shuaib Ahmed, who now takes the helm as the 29th Commander.
The change of command ceremony, a time-honoured naval tradition, signals a new chapter for the Calabar-based command as it continues its mission to combat piracy, oil theft, and other maritime illegalities in the region.
