Troops of Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA launched a comprehensive offensive this week against terrorist hideouts across Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi States. These strategic operations are designed to neutralise insurgent threats and bolster the protection of local communities.
In Sokoto State, troops from the COAS Intervention Battalion VII engaged terrorists in two separate encounters within the Magonho Forest on 25 March 2026. The engagements resulted in the elimination of three bandits and the recovery of three AK-47 rifles along with several motorcycles.
Operations in Zamfara State on the same day proved equally effective. Troops executed a successful ambush along the Gada Maya – Makakari Village road, neutralising two terrorists and forcing the remaining group to retreat. Recovered items from this encounter included an AK-47 rifle, three magazines, 55 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a Baofeng radio, two mobile phones, and a motorcycle.
The momentum continued later that day when troops thwarted a retaliatory attack on Kaida Village. Terrorists had targeted the community under the false pretext of collaboration with security forces, but a swift military response neutralised one additional insurgent and secured another AK-47 rifle. Furthermore, intelligence-led clearance operations in Dutsi Village, Zurmi Local Government Area, forced fleeing terrorists to abandon an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 26 rounds of ammunition under intense pressure.
In Kebbi State, troops responded to reports of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group (LTG) in the Giron Masa community of Shanga Local Government Area. Although the unit encountered an ambush 500 meters from the village, the troops remained undeterred. Reinforcements and combat enablers have since been deployed to the area, and intelligence-driven tracking operations are currently underway to neutralise the fleeing remnants of the group.
The 8 Division/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains resolute in its mission to dominate the operational environment and degrade terrorist capabilities. With morale high, the troops continue to uphold the core values of courage and professionalism in service to the nation.
The Division remains committed to ensuring the safety of all North West communities in alignment with the strategic directives of the Chief of Army Staff.
