1,052 stranded Nigerians return from Libya

At least 1,052 Nigerians stranded in Libya have returned within the last six months.

The number of stranded Nigerian returnees from Libya jumped to 1,052 following the National Emergency Management of Agency (NEMA) receipt of a batch of 131 today.

The Returnees were received by the Director-Genera of the Agency, Alhaji Mustapha Habib Ahmed represented by Coordinator Lagos Territorial Office, Ibrahim Farinloye.

The Returnees arrived at the Cargo Wing of the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Ikeja aboard Al Buraq Air Boeing 737-800with registration number 5A-DMG. The flight arrived in Nigeria at 07:29 PM.

The breakdown of the Returnees showed that 72 adults female, six girls, and four female infants were among the newly voluntarily assisted Returnees

Others were 31 men, 11 boys, and seven infant males and they all completed the new batch of 131 brought back courtesy of the International Organisation for Migration in a special intervention sponsored by the European Union.

NEMA said: “This batch has brought the total number of Voluntary Assisted Returnees to 1,052 so far this year from Libya. Other Agencies on the ground with NEMA are Nigeria Immigration Service, National Commission for Refugees, NAPTIP, NSCDC, Nigerian Port Health, DSS, and FAAN.”
