-

In a deeply disturbing case of gender-based violence, the Kebbi State Police Command has arrested 11 men for sexually assaulting and impregnating a 13-year-old girl reportedly living with an unsound mind in Tungar Giwa village, Shanga Local Government Area.

According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Office, the arrests were made on July 13th, 2025, following credible intelligence gathered by the Divisional Police Officer in Shanga.

The suspects include: Ibrahim Bakanike, Danladi Nauyi, Danjuma Meli, Ibrahim Dankura, Ibrahim Isiaka, Masta Maishayi, Bello Muhammad, Danjuma Kodo, Aminu Isah, Zayyanu Isah and Ahmed Usman.

The victim was taken advantage of on multiple occasions by the suspects, who lured her with amounts ranging between ₦200 and ₦500. The repeated assaults led to her becoming pregnant. She reportedly gave birth to a baby boy on July 8th, 2025.

Police say all arrested individuals confessed to their involvement in the crime during the preliminary investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department to intensify efforts to apprehend the two remaining suspects still at large and ensure a thorough investigation. The CP reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to securing justice for victims of gender-based violence and emphasised swift action in handling such cases.

This case has sparked outrage among residents and human rights advocates, with calls for stronger measures to protect vulnerable individuals across the state.
