The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele, has debunked a story published by a national daily, alleging that he had launched a plot against President-Elect Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu.

The Acting Director of Corporate Communications, CBN, Isa Abdulmumin, in a statement made available to securitynewsalert.com, debunked the allegation while stating that the publication was made today 13th of March 2023.

According to him, in the said publication, it was alleged that Emefiele had launched a  fresh plot against President-elect, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, of the All Progressives Congress.

In the said report, Emefiele was alleged to be determined to influence the outcome of the March 18  governorship election in Lagos State against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). It was also alleged that to achieve this purpose, the CBN released N500 million in new banknotes to shore up the campaign of the Labour Party (LP) in the state

Abdulmumin said: “The aforementioned story went further to allege that the Governor has made a certain amount of money available to a political aspirant ahead of March 18, 2023, gubernatorial poll.

“We wish to inform members of the public that this story is completely false and malicious as the Governor does not know and has never met or even spoken with Mr Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour either in person or through proxy.  We wish to reiterate that the CBN Governor does not take part in Politics and therefore urge anyone with contrary information to prove the Governor wrong should provide such facts.

“As such the Governor and team at the CBN should be allowed to focus on their assigned job with a view to achieving statutory mandates of the Bank.”
