Determined to prevent vulnerable youths from being radicalised and used as political thugs ahead of electioneering campaigns and snatching of ballot boxes, the Sokoto State Police Command conducted an intelligence-led operation on the 29th of June 2022, resulting in the arrest of some suspects.

Some of the suspects were arrested for possession of illicit drugs and deadly weapons.

Among those arrested are Mansur Yusuf Alias Hakki, Abdulwahid Zakariya and Bashiru Aliyu alias Mahaluki.

The Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sanusi Abubakar, said: “This police action is the product of a sustained round-the-clock patrol by strategic commanders in the state as directed by the CP. It is in the light of the foregoing that the state commissioner of police, Muhammed Usaini Gumel is advising politicians to warn their followers to always respect the law and refrain from engaging in acts that could endanger human lives or escalate acts likely to cause destruction of property.”

The image maker said that the Command was determined to take decisive actions and ensure appropriate punishment of potential offenders according to extant laws and provisions of the constitution. This, said the PPRO, was the beginning of a new dawn in Sokoto State as all potential criminal elements are advised to change for the better or face the full wrath of the law as the Command will not relent in its efforts to combat crimes in all ramifications.

“The command is therefore using this medium to appeal to members of the public to be watchful on their children’s behaviour and prepare them as advocates of peace. The CP is assuring the public of the command’s readiness under his watch to take the fight against criminal elements to their doorstep. He further encouraged report of any unusual happenings to the nearest police station through the command’s dedicated emergency number for prompt response 07068848035,” said Abubakar.
