Panic in Oyo as Gunmen Abduct Pupils, Teachers in Coordinated School Attacks

-

Razor-blade tension has enveloped the Oyo State Community following the abduction of pupils, students and school staff during coordinated attacks on schools and communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Following the attacks that threw communities into panic, the Oyo State Police Command has launched an intensive rescue and manhunt operation.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the attacks occurred in the early hours of Friday, May 15, 2026, when armed hoodlums operating on motorcycles stormed Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, as well as Community Grammar School and L.A Primary School in Esiele.

The police said the attackers abducted several victims, including the Vice Principal, Mrs Alamu Folawe.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the assailants, who operated on motorcycles, simultaneously attacked Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, as well as Community Grammar School/L. A Primary School, Esiele, abducting some pupils, students and staff members, including the Vice Principal, Mrs Alamu Folawe,” the statement said.

The command clarified that no pupil or student had been confirmed dead as of the time the report was filed.

“It is important to state that as at the time of filing this report, no pupil or student has been confirmed killed during the incident,” Olayinka stated.

However, the police confirmed that an Assistant Headmaster identified as Mr Adesiyan was killed during the attack. An okada rider was also reportedly shot dead after resisting attempts by the gunmen to seize his motorcycle.

The police further disclosed that the attackers fled with a Toyota Corolla belonging to the abducted Vice Principal before setting the vehicle ablaze along a road leading to the forest.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, led security operatives and other service commanders to the affected communities for an on-the-spot assessment and operational coordination.

“The Commissioner of Police immediately led operatives alongside other service commanders to the scene for on-the-spot assessment and operational coordination, while simultaneously directing a comprehensive manhunt for the perpetrators,” the statement added.

The command said tactical teams, operational assets and intelligence platforms had been deployed across the affected areas to restore order, rescue the abducted victims and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

Police authorities urged residents to remain calm and provide credible information that could assist ongoing rescue efforts and investigations.

Residents were also advised to contact the Oyo State Call Response Centre through the toll-free line 615 or the Police Command Control Room via 08081768614 and 07055495413 in case of emergencies. #Securitynewsalert.com
