At least 40 people have been arrested for vandalism, looting government facilities, and All Progressives Congress (APC) Party offices, said the Zamfara State Police Command.
The State’s Police spokesman, Mohammed Shehu, explained that the suspects were arrested for vandalism, looting government facilities, APC party offices and
and individual houses mostly those of politicians.
The image maker also said that it recovered some of the looted and vandalised property.
He mentioned some of the suspects as Yahaya Abubakar, 50 and 39 others.
Some exhibits recovered by the Police detectives are 36 Bundles of Wrappers, Eight Cushion Chairs, three Sets of Television, one 5000 Litre Tank, one Solar Panel, six bags of POP Cement, one Golf three Vehicle, two speakers, one Caterpillar Radiator, two rugs carpet, one freezer, one Bundle of Armoured Cable wire, three Window Burglary proofs, one Big gate, one Office Centre Table, one Centre Table Drawer, one Air Conditioner, seven Iron Rods, four Doors, one Ceiling Fan, four Signboard Banners of APC, Pieces of Office Cotton, Drugs and Tablets, three, Office Chairs, Bags of Rice, Cutlasses, Knives and Sticks.
Shehu said: “The 40 suspected hoodlums who took advantage of the announcement of Governorship result on 21st March 2023 and embarked on Jubilation that later turned to violence, leading to the destruction and Looting of Government facilities, APC Party offices and Individual Houses mostly those of Politicians.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Kolo Yusuf, who led Joint Police and other security agencies brought the situation under control and thereafter arrested 26 suspects in connection with the incident. Area Commanders and DPOs also embarked on a similar exercise in their respective areas to avert escalation.
“The ongoing investigation by the Police detectives led to the arrest of another fourteen (14) suspects and recovery of looted and vandalised property as under listed above.
“The Commissioner of Police while appealing for calm, reassures for diligent investigation with a view to arresting fleeing suspects and their collaborators for prosecution as well as recover the looted property.”
