A suspected car theft, identified as 27-year-old Meshark Monday, has been arrested by Police Operatives attached to the Rivers State Police Command after a Hollywood Movie highspeed chase in the State.
The suspect, who is a security officer at Geepap Mobile Company, was driving a Toyota Corolla along Olu Obasanjo when his suspicious manoeuvres caught the attention of Policemen as he attempted to evade them near the G.R.A junction.
He further confessed to having stolen the car because of hunger.
The special team that was arrested is the crack operatives of the Olu Obanjo Division. The arrest was made on the 2nd of May, around 12:45 am.
The police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko said: “After a high-speed chase onto Abah road, he was successfully apprehended. During interrogation, Monday, a security officer at Geepap Mobile Company, confessed to his crime.
“Despite working there for two years, he had concealed his driving skills. He admitted succumbing to temptation when hunger struck at midnight, stealing a customer’s car parked for maintenance to sell and improve his life.
“Upon contacting Geepap’s General Manager, Mr Godfrey, it was revealed that Monday’s driving abilities were unknown, as the stolen vehicle was undergoing repairs. The case has been forwarded to court, with ongoing investigations to apprehend Monday’s accomplices in the car theft ring.”
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr Olatunji Disu urged individuals to install security cameras and alarms to prevent such incidents outside of working hours.
