The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono Itam has warned criminals, who under the guise of festival celebration, cause mayhem, assaulting people.
This warning came on the heels of a masquerade, which had a fetish penchant for attacking females in the state.
Again, CP Itam made the warning following information received over time on how miscreants under the guise of celebration of the Imoka Awka festival become unruly and make life unbearable for the good people of the State.
The CP, therefore, reiterated the Command’s commitment to enforcing the law and ensuring public safety.
The CP stated this when he, invited some Organisers of the cultural festival comprising the speaker of Eze Ezu Awka Community, the Palace Secretary of Eze Ezu, the Youth leader, and other stakeholders in Awka in his office at Anambra State Police Command, Awka.
He warned criminal elements whose intentions are to hide under this guise to commit a crime to desist forthwith.
Itam was concerned that the festival of such magnitude was bid to start on the 28th of May, while the Command had not been formally notified.
He urged them to work with the Police to make sure the celebration was hitch-free. He encouraged residents alike especially the Awka indigenes to be law-abiding, vigilant, and security-conscious at all times.
He thereafter orders the deployment of Officers to intensify confidence-building and crime prevention patrols in some identified areas in Awka.
