Investigation launched into video of man fighting armed policeman

The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the viral video, where a man was seen fighting a policeman, and shouting, “if you touch my woman.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, on his Twitter handle said the police personnel and the civilians had all been arrested and an investigation has commenced to find out the root cause of the problem.

Aside from the police personnel, those also arrested for questioning are Ehis Tito Odigie, 33, Oyedeji Motunrayo, 26, corps member, Miracle Onukuoforobi, 27, an undergraduate at Igbinedion University and Bolade Richard, 31, corps member.

This incident is coming just after the Force Spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, on 26th August 2022, said: “Anyone who assaults or attacks a policeman on a uniform, commits an offence and will be caused to face the full wrath of the law. It is not negotiable. Get it right, you don’t rough-handle a policeman on a uniform, it is not allowed, it can only happen in Nigeria where we allow our cultural values and anger to override our legal framework, which is bad. No one should try it. in fact, we don’t encourage anyone to act in this manner, No.”

Speaking on the viral video, Hundeyin said: “No conclusions drawn yet. Both sides have video recordings, which will all be reviewed. All occupants of the car are currently at the station. They are; Ehis Tito Odigie, 33, self-acclaimed music producer, Oyedeji Motunrayo, 26, corps member, Miracle Onukuoforobi, 27, an undergraduate at Igbinedion University and Bolade Richard, 31, corps member. The police officers too are undergoing questioning. The investigation is ongoing. One thing remains sure: everyone, police inclusive, found culpable will face the law!”
