The family members of the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN) have threatened to embark on a series of actions, which they believe will lead to their goal of seeking justice for the late luminary icon Gani Fawehinmi.
This was part of the discussion at a press conference held on April 25, 2025 in Ikeja, Lagos State.
Mr Adeyinka Olumide Fusika, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), who addressed the press, said that incessant harassment and incarceration have affected the family left behind by Late Chief Gani.
Fusika reiterated that Fawehinmi uncommonly devoted his entire Legal, social, and political life to the advocacy and defence of downtrodden and deprived Nigerian masses.
He added: “A group of individuals, either acting in utter contempt of the rules and regulations guiding property development in Lagos State or acting in connivance with unscrupulous government officials, have decided to erect a four-story hotel apartment right by the fence protecting the front part of Chief Gani Fawehinmi’s house in Ikeja GRA.
“So brazen were the daredevil builders or developers that they ignored family warnings and chose to build their structure almost on top of Chief Gani’s fence., These people believe that they are above the law, or perhaps they bear some grudges against Chief Gani and his family.
“But whoever they think they are and whatever is their motive, our stance is that this injustice should not, cannot and must not be allowed to stand because it has caused serious and several threats to the wife and children of late Chief Gani.
“Aside from the fact that the fence protecting Chief Gani Fawehinmi’s house faces imminent collapse, we wish to inform you that a 1000-litre capacity water tank installed right on top of this four-story building has thrice collapsed and fallen into Chief Gani Fawehinmi’s compound from the same apartment.
“We are fortunate that no one has so far been hurt or killed because of these incidents. But these repeated incidents show without doubt how dangerously close this structure is to Chief Gani’s house and demonstrate the critical nature of this issue, as the lives of Chief Gani’s family members are indeed in clear danger.
“It was only providential that the cited incidents have so far not led to fatalities. We do not want to wait until such a catastrophe occurs before taking action. We have therefore chosen to speak out now before deadlier incidents occur.
“We demand that the so-called apartment building be pulled down as the construction violates Lagos State urban development and building regulations, particularly regarding the mandatory setback requirements of at least three meters of space in between buildings.
“We also demand that since the so called apartment building could serve as a haven for anyone with criminal and sinister intent against the family, especially given the obvious commercial nature of the property, which means that anyone with such sinister intentions can gain access to the building, we demand that it’s being pulled down.”
