Oyo SEMA Issues Flood Alert Ahead of Heavy Rainfall

The Oyo State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has issued an urgent flood alert to residents of flood-prone communities, urging immediate preparedness for forecasted heavy rainfall across parts of the state.

In a statement released in Ibadan today, the Administrative Secretary of SEMA, Mrs. Ojuolape Busari, cited data from the Oyo State Flood Early Warning System indicating that areas to the east and northeast of the Ibadan city centre are likely to experience the heaviest rainfall.

Specifically, the alert affects parts of Lagelu Local Government Area, including Iyana Offa, the eastern section of Moniya, and communities extending towards neighbouring Osun State. Additionally, portions of Egbeda LGA, particularly its eastern edge and border communities near Lagelu, are expected to be affected.

Mrs. Busari noted that communities along the Ibadan-Ife Road (A5 Highway), including those in Egbeda and further east, should anticipate significant rainfall. The warning also covers broad areas of the Ibadan metropolis, particularly the eastern and central zones, including IITA, Ibadan Airport, the University of Ibadan, Ojoo, Akobo, Basorun, Gate, Challenge, Ring Road, and other densely populated neighbourhoods.

Eastern and central parts of Akinyele LGA and northeastern areas of Oluyole LGA are also projected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall.
