…Reaffirms Commitment to Technology-Driven Policing
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on 22nd July 2025, hosted the Commandant of the National Defence College (NDC), Rear Admiral J.O. Okosun, along with his directing staff and Nigeria Police Force (NPF) participants of Course 33 at the IGP Smart Conference Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The high-level visit brought together senior military officers—including Deputy Commandant Major General K.O. Ukandu—faculty members of the College, members of the Nigeria Police Force Management Team, and senior police officers. The highlight of the event was the presentation of a research paper by NPF Course 33 participants titled “Emerging Technologies and Internal Security: Strategic Options for the Nigeria Police Force by 2035.”
In his remarks, Rear Admiral Okosun thanked the IGP for the warm reception and emphasised the NDC’s core mandate: empowering participants to develop innovative solutions to national security challenges. He commended the NPF participants for choosing a forward-looking topic that underscores proactive measures in addressing future threats to internal security. He also reiterated the enduring partnership between the Nigeria Police Force and the NDC, expressing confidence in its continued growth under the current leadership.
On behalf of the NPF Course 33 participants, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) D.B.Lamba presented a strategic roadmap aimed at integrating emerging technologies into policing operations by 2035. The proposal outlines phased reforms—spanning institutional, legal, infrastructural, human resource, and sustainability areas—to modernise the Force and enhance internal security, crime prevention, and emergency response capabilities nationwide.
In his address, the IGP congratulated Rear Admiral Okosun on his appointment and celebrated the longstanding collaboration between the NPF and NDC. He praised the Course 33 participants for their insightful and forward-thinking presentation, highlighting the pressing need for technology-driven strategies to combat evolving security challenges. The IGP reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to adopting and implementing these strategic initiatives as part of its comprehensive modernization agenda.
