EFCC Nabs 37 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Port Harcourt Sting Operation

-

In response to a distress call from residents of Majesty Estate, NTA Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, operatives of the Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday, August 1, 2025, carried out a sting operation targeting the activities of suspected internet fraudsters in the area. The operation resulted in the arrest of 37 individuals.

During the operation, operatives visited an apartment that had been flagged through the Commission’s intelligence efforts. Despite properly identifying themselves and clearly stating their mission, the residents of the apartment refused to grant access. As a result, one of the doors was forced open to allow for a lawful search. No arrests were made, and no items were recovered from the premises. Importantly, the search was conducted professionally, with no incident of misconduct recorded.

The EFCC notes with concern the circulation of a viral video alleging harassment and property damage. These claims are inconsistent with the facts of the operation. On the contrary, many residents of Majesty Estate expressed appreciation for the Commission’s timely intervention and the arrests made.

The EFCC remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism in all its operations and assures the public that any operative found to have acted outside the bounds of their duties will face appropriate disciplinary action.
