How Customs Operatives caused death of six people, plus policemen

Six were killed, including three policemen along Argungu/Birnin Kebbi Road, on the 27th of September 2022, while operatives of the Nigerian Customs Service were chasing after a car loaded with PMS.

According to the Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), a Superintendent of Police, Nafiu Abubakar, “The accident involved a Bank Bullion Van belonging to ECO Bank and four other motor vehicles and a motorcycle. The accident occurred when a Carina E car, carrying Jerry cans of PMS, was believed to have been pursued by a Nigeria Customs Service patrol team from Birni Kebbi. On getting to Jeda village, the Carina E car had head-on collusion with the Eco Bank Bullion van. Consequently, five vehicles and one motorcycle were burnt to ashes. Six people including three Policemen died in the inferno, while five others and three policemen sustained various injuries. They were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Birni Kebbi, for medical attention. On receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Ahmed Magaji Kontagora swiftly rushed to the scene. The CP has sent his condolences to the families of the deceased. He also assured members of the public that a thorough investigation will be carried out to unravel the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.”
