The Comptroller General of Immigration (GCI), Isah Here Idris, on Wednesday 28th 2022, while meeting his management team to discuss preparations for the forthcoming general elections, said his men intercepted and confiscated voters’ cards from some migrants in Nigeria.

While addressing his men, Idris disclosed that the Service has recently intercepted and confiscated some voters’ cards from certain migrants in the nation’s electoral process.

He directed the activation and deployment of all the migration management and border security operatives of the Service to ensure that ineligible persons, main migrants, are not allowed to participate in the nation’s electoral process.

The Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Amos Okpu, said that during the meeting, the GCI reiterated the government’s commitment to a free and fair electoral process for the 2023 general elections and charged heads of commands and formations across the country to upscale surveillance activities in all locations including border crossing points to ensure successful elections.

Idris enjoined all Personnel to be alive to their responsibilities, warning that any infractions or unprofessional conduct before, during and after the elections will attract severe sanctions.

He further called for constructive and patriotic engagements among all agencies, stressing that synergy and collaboration with stakeholders was essential ingredient needed to optimally discharge responsibility toward building a better Nigeria.
