Minor Explosion, Fire Outbreak at Ilese Barracks – Nigerian Army

-

The Nigerian Army has confirmed that a minor explosion and subsequent fire outbreak occurred in the early hours of Thursday, 14 August 2025, at Ilese Barracks, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

According to an official statement, the incident took place within one of the storage buildings of the 42nd Engineers Brigade Counter-Improvised Explosive Device Squadron, resulting in a limited fire outbreak.

Swift intervention by troops of the 12 Field Engineer Regiment, working alongside the Ijebu-Ode Fire Service, ensured the blaze was quickly contained.

The Army emphasised that no lives were lost and no injuries sustained. Structural damage was confined to the affected building and some stored materials. A detailed assessment is underway to determine the extent of material loss.

Residents of Ilese and surrounding communities have been urged to remain calm and continue with their normal activities. The Nigerian Army, in collaboration with relevant agencies, has commenced a thorough investigation into the cause of the explosion to prevent a recurrence.

The statement reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to safeguarding both its personnel and members of neighbouring communities.
