The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 952 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) to the rank of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs). However, the Commission declined the promotion of 176 ASPs who were found to have retired from the Force, as well as three others suspected to have died.
The decision was one of the major outcomes of the first plenary meeting of the 6th Board of the Commission, held at its corporate headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
In a statement, the Chairman of the Commission, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Hashimu Argungu, mni, congratulated the newly promoted officers but urged them to embrace nationalism and uphold the laws and regulations guiding police service.
Argungu cautioned that the Commission would no longer tolerate diversionary or unauthorized actions by serving officers, stressing that there were established channels for ventilating grievances. He assured the officers that the PSC remains committed to ensuring smooth career progression without hindrance or undue interference.
Some of the officers elevated include Maidawa Yakubu, Edwin Thomas, Chagga Yakubu, Sabo Hassan, Omini Dickson, Bassey Alobo, Enyinnaya Ejimadu, Grace Okon, Rose Bassey, Fidelis Offorbuike, Adamu Isa Audu, and Ofem Uket.
Others are Elvina Ochia Chukwu of the FCID Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi Lagos; Kyrian Igwe of the Enugu State Command; Ndidiamaka Onwude, O/C JWC, B Division, Kpirikpri, Abakaliki; Rosemary Obianuju Egbo of Warri Area Command, Delta State; Tabitha Gotan; Uya Bassey Johnson of Abia State Command; Elizabeth Ajik of NPF-NCC, FCID; Sunday Prince Ajaegbu of 44 PMF, Force Headquarters, Abuja; and Deborah Danjuma of SPU Base 7, Abuja.
Also promoted were Olowu Yetunde Olatunde of Ogun State Command, Felix Okpaleke of 32 PMF Abakaliki, Zakka Bulus of FCT Command, Kudirat Elegba of SPU Base 2 Lagos, Isioma Omodion of Delta State Command, Ukpabio Ayi Akiba of Rivers State Command, and Edna Emeh Bassey.
The Commission has since conveyed the approval to the Inspector-General of Police for implementation in a letter signed by its Secretary, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani.
