Enugu Police Arrests Six in Crackdown on Robbery, Fraud, Cultism

-

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested six male suspects in a series of recent operations targeting robbery, fraud, and cult-related activities.

The arrests, conducted between late August and early September 2025, resulted in the recovery of two stolen minibuses, a motorcycle, a laptop, and numerous ATM cards.

In one operation, the Command’s Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad arrested three men identified as John Joseph (34), also known as “Musa”; Kingsley Essien Ubong (40); and Ogbonna Kelvin (43). Police linked their arrests to the confession of a previously detained suspect. A minibus and a motorcycle, both without registration numbers, were recovered from the trio.

The same squad also arrested Sunday Ebuka Egbuaba (38), a suspected cult member, on September 2. Acting on information from another suspect already under investigation, police searched Egbuaba’s residence and recovered a stolen HP laptop.

In a separate incident in Nsukka on August 30, police intervened to rescue Friday Nwaomege (25) from a mob. Nwaomege and two accomplices, who remain at large, had allegedly snatched an ATM card from a victim. Following his arrest, police recovered twelve ATM cards from various banks and a minibus that was damaged by the mob during the incident. Nwaomege was treated for his injuries before being taken into custody.

Police officials have confirmed that all suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing gang members.

The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reassured the public of the command’s dedication to ridding the state of crime. He urged citizens to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and supportive of police efforts.
