Delta Police Strikes with Multiple Arrests, Weapons, Drug Seizures

-

The Delta State Police Command has recorded breakthroughs in its fight against violent crime and illicit drugs, with multiple arrests and recoveries in a string of coordinated operations across Asaba.

According to Superintendent of Police Edafe Bright, Public Relations Officer of the command, operatives of the ‘B’ Division, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), and the Eagle Net Special Squad (ENSS) carried out three successful operations between October 1 and 3, 2025.

On October 1, operatives of B Division Asaba, led by Divisional Police Officer CSP Edewor Akponegware, responded to a distress call following a robbery at the BONSAAC axis of the city. A woman had been dispossessed of her phone and valuables at gunpoint by two men.

Working alongside local vigilantes, the team mounted a cordon and intercepted one suspect, identified as 21-year-old Amara Nwako from Oko. A locally made pistol was recovered during the operation, while his accomplice escaped into an uncompleted building. Investigators say the suspect may be linked to the Arobaga secret cult. He is in custody, while a manhunt for the fleeing suspect continues.

In a separate operation on October 2, operatives of the Eagle Net Special Squad intercepted a truck transporting suspected illicit drugs. The vehicle, with registration number 3BGT 18LG, was stopped in Asaba by a patrol team led by SP Danyaya Yunusa.

The operation was carried out in collaboration with the office of the Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Illicit Drugs and Human Trafficking. The driver, identified as 52-year-old Dennis Uruma from Igalamela Local Government Area of Kogi State, was arrested. Police say counting and weighing of the recovered substances are still ongoing.

On October 3, operatives of the RRS led by CSP Nosa Alex raided a suspected criminal hideout near the Basket Market, Asaba. Acting on credible intelligence, officers arrested three suspects: 25-year-old Rabbi Godwin, 20-year-old Lucky Nanakumo, and 19-year-old David Igwe.

During the search, a fabricated Beretta pistol was recovered. Police believe the suspects are part of a larger network, and investigations are underway to trace other members and additional weapons.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, praised the operatives for the successes and reiterated the command’s zero tolerance for violent crime, armed robbery, cultism, and drug trafficking. He urged residents to remain vigilant and share credible information with security agencies.

“The Command will continue to work with relevant agencies and community partners to dismantle criminal networks, recover weapons, and disrupt drug supply chains,” he assured.
