The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Matilda Umiah Ngbaronye, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Festac Division.
She passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, following a surgical procedure at Mayriamville Medical Centre, Bode Thomas, Surulere.
In an official statement released on Saturday, the command described her death as a profound loss, highlighting her unwavering professionalism, integrity, and dedication to duty. “The Lagos State Police Command deeply regrets to announce the passing of the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Festac Division, CSP Matilda Ngbaronye,” the statement read. “She sadly passed away after undergoing surgery at Mayriamville Medical Centre.”
The late officer was praised for her humane approach to policing, which helped foster strong ties between the police and the communities she served. “She was known for her diligence, discipline, and commitment to duty. Her friendly disposition greatly helped to bridge the gap between the Police and the public,” the statement added.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, expressed deep sorrow over the news, describing it as a rude shock to the entire command. He extended heartfelt condolences to Ngbaronye’s family, especially her aged mother, and called her passing “an irreparable loss.”
Jimoh also revealed that he had personally reached out to her husband and elder brother, a priest, to convey the command’s sympathies and offer support during this difficult time.
Details of the burial arrangements are expected to be announced in due course.
