LASTMA Rescues Infant as Four Pedestrians Suffer Severe Injuries in Otedola Multi-Vehicle Crash

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has announced the rescue of an eight-month-old baby and four severely injured pedestrians following a multi-vehicle collision in the early hours of Friday at Otedola, inward Tollgate, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

The accident involved four vehicles: a Hydra truck (APP 261 FA), an LT commercial bus (EPE 574 YC), a Ford vehicle (GG 283 XQ) and an unregistered Mark flat-body truck.

According to preliminary findings, the four pedestrians, one of whom had the infant strapped to her bac,k were attempting to cross the expressway when the speeding LT commercial bus rammed into them. The impact triggered a secondary chain collision involving the other vehicles, including the unregistered truck.

LASTMA officers, in a swift and coordinated response, rescued the baby unharmed despite the severity of the crash. The four injured victims were stabilised and rushed to the Lagos State Accident & Emergency Centre by Tollgate for urgent treatment.

Personnel from the Alausa Police Station provided operational backup during the rescue, maintaining order and securing the area.

LASTMA officials also cleared all damaged vehicles from the road, restoring free traffic flow inward Tollgate and preventing extended congestion along the busy corridor.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed sympathy to the injured persons and wished them a speedy recovery. He also cautioned pedestrians against the dangerous practice of crossing high-speed highways, urging them to use pedestrian bridges provided by the government.
