The Nasarawa State Police Command has categorically debunked reports circulating on social media alleging the abduction of two pupils from St. Peter’s Academy in Rukubi, Doma Local Government Area.
The police described the incident as a “false alarm” triggered by students mistaking local hunters for kidnappers.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the confusion began around 10:00 a.m. on November 21, 2025. Unverified reports had spread rapidly, claiming that gunmen had invaded the school premises while students were participating in sporting activities and abducted two pupils.
In response to the distress call, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, immediately deployed a combined team of Police operatives and military personnel to the scene to secure the area and rescue the alleged victims.
Hunters, Not Kidnappers. Upon arrival and subsequent investigation, security operatives discovered that no abduction had taken place.
“It was discovered that the pupils had sighted some hunters carrying Dane guns and, out of fear, fled, mistaking them for kidnappers,” SP Nansel stated.
The police spokesperson confirmed that the area was thoroughly combed, and the school proprietor was interviewed. The proprietor corroborated the police findings, confirming that the alarm was false and that all students were accounted for.
The Command assured the public that normalcy had been restored to the school and its environs. Security forces continue to monitor the general area to prevent any security breaches.
The Police Command urged the public to disregard the rumours and cautioned media outlets against publishing unverified information that could cause unnecessary panic.
