Ghanaian Security Guard Stabbed to Death in Random Bronx Attack

-

A 53-year-old Ghanaian security guard, George Ennin, was fatally stabbed in an unprovoked daytime attack in the Bronx on Monday, January 5, 2026, just hours after returning to work from a month-long vacation in Ghana.

Ennin, a father of two teenage daughters, was walking to his job at about 2 p.m. near the intersection of Third Avenue and East 157th Street in the Melrose/Mott Haven area when he was approached by a suspect who allegedly kicked him and stabbed him multiple times without provocation.

Surveillance footage from the area captured the attack and its aftermath.

According to authorities, Ennin managed to walk approximately 29 steps while seeking help before collapsing on the sidewalk. He was rushed to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police later arrested the suspect, identified as Sean Jones, 38. Investigators described Jones as a repeat offender with about 20 prior arrests, mostly related to robbery and assault.

Jones has been charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon. He was expected to be arraigned as the investigation continues.
