FG to Arraign Suspects Over Benue Killings Monday

-

The Federal Government has announced that suspects arrested in connection with the recent killings in Yelwata, a town in Benue State, will be arraigned in court on Monday, February 2, 2026.

According to a press release issued on Sunday by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, the suspects will be charged before Justice Joyce Abdul-Malik of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Confirming the development, the government said the arrests followed “a painstaking investigation and collaboration by government agencies,” adding that those in custody are “strongly linked to the killings” in the Benue community.

“The Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice wishes to assure Nigerians that justice will be ensured in the matter to send a strong signal to the enemies of the country, acting under any disguise,” the statement said.

The Federal Government further reaffirmed the commitment of the current administration to safeguarding lives and property across the country.

“The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to the protection of lives and property of all as enshrined in the Constitution,” the statement added.

The press release was signed by Kamarudeen Ogundele, ANIPR, Special Adviser to the President on Communication and Publicity in the Office of the AGF and Minister of Justice, and dated February 1, 2026.
