The Enugu State Police Command has arrested four male suspects in two separate operations linked to vandalism, recovering vandalised bridge components and suspected carbon steel oil and gas pipes.
The Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police (CP) Mamman Bitrus Giwa, said the arrests were part of ongoing efforts to curb vandalism and other criminal activities across the state.
Police operatives attached to the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Squad made the first arrest on February 6, 2026, at about 6:45 p.m. while on routine patrol along the Sagem/Amaechi–Idodo axis of the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway.
During the operation, officers intercepted a white MAN Diesel 40-foot trailer loaded with vandalised iron bridge components. Three suspects identified as Agbo Okwudili, 45; Emmanuel Onyemachi, 18; and Evans Ovie Monday, 29, were arrested at the scene.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects and their accomplices, who are currently at large, allegedly vandalised the bridge parts at Eziama Bridge, Amechi-Idodo, in Nkanu East Local Government Area.
In a separate operation conducted later the same day at about 11:56 p.m., SWAT operatives on patrol along Owoh/Ubahu Road in Nkanu East Local Government Area arrested another suspect, Orjiakor Hyacinth, 50. He was allegedly found assembling vandalised suspected carbon steel oil and gas pipes. Police recovered several pieces of the pipes and one gas cylinder from him.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Enugu State Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on February 8, 2026, noting that investigations are ongoing.
“Investigative efforts are ongoing to arrest other suspects currently at large, while the cases will be prosecuted in court once investigations are concluded,” Ndukwe stated.
Commending the operatives for their vigilance and prompt response, CP Giwa reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the state.
“The Enugu State Police Command remains unwavering in its commitment to the protection of lives and property across the state,” Giwa said. “Vandals whose criminal activities cause serious social and economic setbacks are warned to desist forthwith, as the Command will not relent in its efforts to track down and bring all perpetrators to justice.”
Police authorities assured residents that operations aimed at combating vandalism and related crimes would continue across the state.
