The Delta State Police Command said it has arrested suspected gunrunners and recovered 42 locally made guns, among others.
The suspects were arrested after the command received credible intelligence about a syndicate that specialised in manufacturing locally made guns and other arms.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bright Edafe, said that it was on the premise of the intel, that the Commissioner of Police, Ari Muhammed Ali, detailed the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU) to carry out intensive raids in the said area.
He added: “The team led by the Commander SACU, SP Christopher Igbaji, on the 31st of October, 2022, raided the hideout in Emuhu Community, Ika North-East Local Government Area, during which 42 locally made single barrel guns, six double barrel guns, three pump action guns, two filing machines, and a toolbox containing fabricated materials working tools were recovered.”
Edafe explained that the suspected ring leader, Peter Okolie, 58 and nine others from Agba Quarters Emuhu were arrested, exhibits in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
Ari commended the team for the successful operation and assured all residents in the State that the Command will not relent in the fight against crime and criminality, noting that Proactive Policing and Community policing were vital in this fight against criminality.
