TRIBUTE TO A VETERAN JOURNALIST: CHIEF OLATUNJI SEGUN JACOB

-

By Prince Muyiwa Adejobi

In my journey through life and my career as a police officer in Nigeria, I have had the privilege of meeting and working with many individuals in both my official and personal capacities. Each encounter has left its own impression, but a few individuals have made a lasting impact on my professional journey. Chief Olatunji of the Tribune Newspaper is one such remarkable personality.

My relationship with the media dates back to 2004, when I joined the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) as a student member, a year before I enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet ASP in 2005.

In 2008, I became the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ogun State, and since then, I have remained actively engaged in the media space, interacting with journalists and other stakeholders in the communication industry.

Chief Olatunji Segun Jacob is one of the veterans I have known for many years and one of those who have made my professional responsibilities as a Police spokesperson considerably easier.

I vividly remember when he once told me that I would become the Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force. At the time, it was an expression of confidence and encouragement. Today, that prediction has become a reality.

Beyond his professional excellence, Chief Olatunji has been a pillar of support, stability and encouragement. He is one of those who know how to calm tense situations when the heat is high, bringing wisdom, maturity and understanding to difficult moments.

He is a reliable, responsible, intelligent and experienced journalist, a respected elder statesman in the media profession, and a man whose contributions to journalism and professional relationships deserve recognition.

My dear brother and egbon, Chief Olatunji, today, I celebrate you.
I join your colleagues, friends, associates and admirers in wishing you a very happy birthday. Thank you for your friendship, your encouragement, your wisdom and the invaluable role you have played in my professional journey.

May the Almighty God continue to preserve you in good health, grant you peace of mind, bless you with longevity and keep you strong to enjoy the fruits of your labour.

As we say in Yoruba:

“Igba odun, odun kan ni o, lase Edumare.”

E e gbo, e e to, e e f’erigi jobi.

May you live long, grow in strength and continue to enjoy the blessings of life.

Happy birthday, Baba! Happy birthday, Egbon! Happy birthday to a great veteran journalist! OA!!!

Ire oo!
