Nigerian Army Deploys Special Intervention Battalion to Boost Operation WHIRL STROKE

-

The Nigerian Army has announced the deployment of the newly formed COAS Special Intervention Battalion XV to bolster the Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) in its fight against insecurity across vulnerable communities.

The troops, specially trained in advanced combat tactics at the Nigerian Army Training Centre in Kontagora, were approved for deployment by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu.

According to the Army, the battalion is expected to serve as a force multiplier, bringing renewed momentum to ongoing operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks, curbing banditry, and restoring stability to farming communities.

“These soldiers have undergone intensive Special Forces training and are now ready to apply their skills in operational theatres across the country,” a statement from Army headquarters noted.

Upon arrival in the Joint Operations Area, the troops reportedly displayed high morale and readiness for combat. The Force Commander of OPWS, Major General Moses Gara, formally welcomed them, urging the soldiers to remain disciplined and professional.

“This mission demands resilience and total commitment. You must be decisive and ruthless against terrorist and criminal elements,” Gara said, stressing that complacency has no place in the operational environment.

He further encouraged collaboration with other security agencies and reminded the troops of the importance of maintaining cordial relations with host communities. “You are to uphold human rights tenets in line with our code of conduct while safeguarding livelihoods and reviving socio-economic activities disrupted by insecurity,” he added.

Major General Gara also cautioned the soldiers on the responsible use of social media, highlighting its potential impact on military operations. He emphasised operational security and adherence to the Nigerian Army’s core values and rules of engagement.
