Tinubu Removes Egbetokun as Number One Police Officer in Nigeria, Disu to Take Over

-

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the removal of Kayode Egbetokun as Inspector-General of Police, according to multiple senior police sources and officials within the Police Service Commission.

Sources told SaharaReporters on Tuesday that Egbetokun had visited the Presidential Villa earlier and was instructed to prepare his handover notes ahead of his exit from office.

He is expected to be succeeded by Tunji Disu, currently the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Alagbon, Lagos.

“Egbetokun was at the Villa yesterday and was told to go and prepare his handover notes. I believe he has done that already and will be handing over to Tunji Disu,” one source said.

Sources also claimed the decision followed mounting controversies surrounding Egbetokun’s tenure, including disputes over the extension of his stay in office beyond the mandatory retirement limits and allegations of favouritism and financial impropriety, which critics had repeatedly raised.

Another source alleged that some police officers reacted with jubilation after news of his removal circulated on Monday, though the development has not yet been formally announced by authorities.

The source further claimed that the First Lady, Remi Tinubu, had supported his continued stay in office, while the president insisted on the change. Securitynewsalert.com
