Force Headquarters Dominates as 15th Biennial Police Games Conclude in Asaba

-

The Nigeria Police Force officially lowered the flags on the 15th Biennial Police Games (BIPOGA), titled “Asaba 2026.” After a week of intense athletic competition, Force Headquarters (FHQ) Abuja emerged as the overall champion, clinching the top spot on the medal table.

The closing ceremony, a vibrant display of pageantry and athleticism, marked the end of a week-long event that brought together officers from various commands and formations across the federation. Following FHQ in the rankings, Zone 2 Lagos secured the second-place position, while Zone 9 rounded out the top three.

Addressing the crowd, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, hailed the tournament as a landmark event for the institution.

“What began as a convergence of Commands and Formations has matured into a powerful demonstration of unity, resilience, and shared purpose,” IGP Egbetokun stated. “This was a defining institutional moment where competition revealed character.”

The IGP emphasised that the games’ theme, “Beyond the Badge: Excellence in Action,” was not merely a slogan but a reflection of the officers’ conduct. He noted that the physical rigours of the track and field directly mirror the demands of law enforcement.

“The physical discipline of sports directly translates to operational readiness and better service delivery,” the IGP added.

The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday John Onyeme, officially declared the Games closed. In his remarks, he praised the participating officers for their conduct throughout the competition.

“The Nigeria Police Force has demonstrated discipline, dignity, and dedication beyond the badge,” Onyeme said. “Delta State remains committed to supporting sports as a vehicle for unity, youth development, and national progress.”

The final day featured high-octane events, including the football finals, a frisbee demonstration, and the highly anticipated tug-of-war championship. Spectators also witnessed the 4X100 relay races and various invitational events among sister agencies, all culminating in a grand closing concert.

According to Ag. ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Force Public Relations Officer, said the NPF intends to channel the spirit of the games back into their daily operations.

The Force remains dedicated to carrying the unity, discipline, and resilience displayed in Asaba into its policing duties nationwide.
