Grief, Fear in Adamawa Village After Deadly Attack, Amnesty International Speaks

-

Residents of Kirchinga village in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State are mourning after a brutal attack that left families shattered, homes destroyed, and many people still unaccounted for.

Securitynewsalert.com learned that the human rights group Amnesty International Nigeria said more than 24 people were killed and hundreds were injured when gunmen stormed the community on Tuesday evening, setting buildings ablaze and forcing residents to flee for safety.

According to the organisation, the scale of the violence has left deep scars on the small rural community. Survivors described a village littered with bodies after the attackers left, while homes, shops and places of worship continued to burn. Many of those who lost their lives were elderly residents who could not escape quickly.

“Amnesty International strongly condemns the horrifying attack in which over 24 people were killed and hundreds injured at Kirchinga village, Madagali LGA of Adamawa State,” the organisation said in a statement.

For many families, the pain is compounded by uncertainty, as several villagers remain missing and relatives continue to search for loved ones in the aftermath of the violence.

Although the insurgent group Boko Haram has not claimed responsibility, Amnesty International said the attack bears similarities to previous assaults linked to the group, based on information gathered from survivors and its analysis of the pattern of the violence.

The organisation warned that attacks by gunmen and armed groups have increasingly targeted rural communities across northern Nigeria, leaving many villagers displaced and living in fear.

It called on Nigerian authorities to step up protection for vulnerable communities and ensure those responsible for the killings and destruction are brought to justice.
