Popular Anambra Native Doctor Pleads Guilty, Sentenced to Two Years in Jail

-

A high-profile native doctor in Anambra, Chidozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwa Okuko, has been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to charges brought against him by the Anambra State Government.

Justice Jude Obiora of the Anambra State High Court in Awka delivered the judgment, convicting Nwangwu under a plea bargain arrangement.

The native doctor admitted to administering Okeite charms to individuals seeking wealth through unlawful means.

“This conviction marks a significant milestone in our fight against superstition and organised crime,” Justice Obiora declared while passing judgment.

Securitynewsalert.com gathered that the plea bargain was designed to secure a lesser punishment for Nwangwu, who has long been known for his extravagant lifestyle and influence in the region.

According to Justice Jude Obiora’s ruling, his shrine, where he allegedly produced charms, will be destroyed.

“We cannot allow places that promote unlawful practices to continue to exist,” a government representative stated after the judgment.

Nwangwu was arrested in February 2025 by operatives of the Agunechemba Security outfit on allegations of aiding and abetting kidnapping and money rituals.

State officials are hailing his guilty plea as a victory in efforts to promote a more rational and enlightened society.
