Cross River Lawmaker Apologises Over Controversy, Accepts Responsibility for Silence

-

A member of the Cross River State House of Assembly representing Obubra 1 State Constituency, Ovat Dickson Agbor, has issued a public apology following a controversy that generated widespread public discussion and reactions online.

In a statement released by the lawmaker, Agbor expressed regret over the situation and apologised to the government and people of Cross River State for what he described as the embarrassment the incident may have caused.

The controversy, which circulated widely on social media, sparked public concern and debate about the personal conduct of the legislator. However, Agbor maintained that many of the narratives being circulated online did not accurately reflect the true situation.

“I wish to sincerely express my profound apology to the Government and good people of Cross River State over the recent controversy that has generated public concern,” he said.

The lawmaker specifically apologised to the state governor, Bassey Otu, and the First Lady, Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, for any embarrassment the situation may have caused to the state government and its image.

Agbor also extended his apology to the leadership of the Cross River State House of Assembly, particularly the Speaker, Elvert Ayambem, as well as his colleagues in the legislature, for the discomfort and distraction the matter may have created.

He further apologised to the people of Obubra Local Government Area, including traditional rulers, political leaders and other stakeholders who have supported him.

The lawmaker equally sought forgiveness from members of the All Progressives Congress in Cross River State, especially the Obubra chapter, for any negative attention the issue may have drawn to the party.

Agbor also addressed his family, apologising to his wife, her family and his own relatives for the emotional strain caused by the controversy.

While noting that several online reports were inaccurate, he admitted that his failure to respond promptly contributed to the speculation surrounding the issue.

“I take full responsibility for not coming out earlier to address the issue publicly. I acknowledge that my silence created room for speculation, and for that I am deeply sorry,” he said.

He reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Obubra 1 State Constituency with humility, responsibility and renewed dedication.

The apology comes after a controversy involving the lawmaker attracted attention on social media, with various claims circulating online about a domestic dispute involving his wife. The situation sparked public debate and calls for clarification from the legislator.

However, the lawmaker’s wife was reported to have dismissed some of the allegations, saying the public should “mind their business” and insisting that the lawmaker did not physically assault her.

The development prompted Agbor’s public statement in which he sought to calm tensions and address the public concern generated by the incident. #Securitynewsalert.com
