IGP Disu Pledges Enhanced Police Reforms in High-Level Meeting with NPTF Leadership

-

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Inspector-General of Police IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for a strategically aligned partnership with the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) to prioritise personnel welfare and operational readiness.

The IGP made these remarks on Thursday at the Force Headquarters during a courtesy visit by the NPTF Executive Secretary, Alhaji Mohammed Sheidu, and the Fund’s Board of Directors.

During the dialogue, IGP Disu underscored that the success of any reform agenda hinges on the morale of the men and women in uniform. He specifically championed the cause of the lower cadre, urging the NPTF to design welfare programs specifically for junior-ranked officers. He maintained that those at the lower cadre carry the heaviest operational burdens and deserve structured, consistent support.

Key welfare priorities identified during the meeting include the acceleration of quality residential housing, the provision of accessible and modern healthcare facilities, and the guarantee of prompt payment for insurance and welfare benefits to sustain discipline and dedication.

The Executive Secretary of the NPTF, Alhaji Mohammed Sheidu, reaffirmed the Fund’s dedication to providing needs-driven interventions. Highlighting the Fund’s recent impact, Sheidu noted that the NPTF has already conducted over 100 training programs benefiting more than 13,000 officers.

Furthermore, the organisation has executed over 170 infrastructure projects across the country while investing heavily in smart policing technology and healthcare initiatives.

Sheidu emphasised that the Fund remains committed to modernising police facilities and ensuring that all future interventions align strictly with the Force’s strategic priorities.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to building a more responsive, technologically driven, and citizen-focused police force. By deepening the collaboration between the NPF and the NPTF, the leadership aims to sharpen the operational effectiveness of officers nationwide.
