IGP Disu Disburses ₦2.4bn to Families of Fallen Police Officers

-

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has presented cheques worth over ₦2.4 billion to families and next-of-kin of deceased police officers, reaffirming the Force’s commitment to personnel welfare.

The presentation, which took place at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, saw a total of 1,075 beneficiaries receive payments under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes.

According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, the total sum disbursed amounted to ₦2,435,421,584.11, covering multiple policy years, including 2018/2019 through 2025/2026, as well as outstanding insurance claims recovered from previous years.

Speaking at the event, the Force Insurance Officer, Lydia Ameh, said the disbursement reflects the determination of the IGP to prioritise the welfare of officers and their families.

She noted that the payments were largely recoveries from long-standing insurance obligations, adding that steps had been taken to ensure compliance by insurance providers and prevent delays in future claims.

“The Force Insurance Unit remains committed to efficient, transparent, and accountable service delivery,” Ameh said.

In his remarks, Disu described the ceremony as a solemn recognition of the sacrifices made by officers who died in the line of duty.

He stressed that the initiative goes beyond financial assistance, representing the Nigeria Police Force’s enduring obligation to honour the courage and service of fallen officers while supporting their families.

“The welfare of our personnel remains a central pillar of this administration,” the IGP said, assuring that efforts would be intensified to strengthen welfare frameworks and improve administrative efficiency.

He also disclosed plans to deploy modern technology to enhance transparency, streamline claims processing, and eliminate delays in the disbursement of benefits.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to the welfare of its personnel, noting that the sacrifices of fallen officers remain vital to the nation’s peace, security, and stability.
