Terrorists’ Explosives Kills Driver, Injures Nursing Mother on Kwara Road

The Command noted that the explosives were likely planted along the road by suspected terrorists to disrupt clearance operations in that axis

Explosives planted by suspected terrorists rocked the Kiama–Woro–Borgu Road in the early hours of Monday, March 23, leaving one dead and a nursing mother injured.

The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the incident, which involved a commercial vehicle travelling from Kaiama toward Niger State. The blast claimed the life of the driver, identified as Zubairu Inuwa.

While the driver was killed instantly, a female passenger, Nafisat Mohammed, sustained injuries in the blast. In what witnesses are calling a miracle, her infant child, who was also in the vehicle, emerged from the wreckage completely unharmed.

“A passenger, Nafisat Mohammed, a nursing mother, sustained injuries and has been evacuated for medical treatment, while her infant child survived unharmed,” stated SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Police Public Relations Officer.

Experts from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD-CBRN) unit were dispatched to the scene to sweep the area. Initial findings suggest the device was part of a targeted effort by insurgents to hamper security movements in the region.

The Command noted that the explosives were likely planted along the road by suspected terrorists to disrupt clearance operations in that axis. In response to the attack, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, has ordered an immediate increase in boots on the ground to restore confidence among residents and travellers.

“Additional security personnel have since been deployed to the area, while surveillance and monitoring have been intensified to ensure the safety of residents and road users,” the Command assured in an official statement.

Expressing deep sorrow over the loss of life, CP Adekimi extended condolences to the family of Zubairu Inuwa and wished the injured mother a swift recovery.

The police have urged the public to remain vigilant but calm, requesting that any suspicious activities be reported immediately to the nearest security agency to help prevent further incidents. #Securitynewsalert.com
