Taskforce Boss, CSP Akerele, Alleges Blackmail Plot Over Impounded Vehicles

-

The Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, has broken his silence regarding a recent wave of online attacks, alleging they are part of a coordinated blackmail campaign triggered by his refusal to grant “special favours” to social media operators.

Speaking on the radio programme Bosenlo on Lagos Traffic Radio 96.1FM, Akerele identified individuals associated with Sheriffdeen Ojon and Objectv as the figures behind the smear campaign.

He claimed the duo persistently lobbied for the illegal release of motorcycles (okada) and vehicles impounded for serious traffic violations, including driving against traffic.

According to the Chairman, the digital attacks began only after he denied these requests for preferential treatment. Akerele revealed he possesses evidence, including Facebook chat screenshots, that purportedly show the individuals threatening to tarnish his reputation and undermine the Agency’s credibility if their demands were not met.

“It is both sad and embarrassing that individuals who should be using their platforms to enlighten the public have instead turned them into tools for blackmail, intimidation, and the spread of falsehoods,” Akerele stated during the broadcast.

Reaffirming the Agency’s stance, Akerele cited the Lagos State Road Traffic Law (2018), which mandates the outright forfeiture of vehicles caught plying one-way routes. He emphasised that strict enforcement is a matter of public safety rather than personal vendetta, as the primary goal is to curb dangerous driving habits that lead to avoidable fatalities.

He further maintained that the mandate of ensuring orderliness on Lagos roads would be pursued without “sacred cows” or exceptions for influential entities.

The Chairman urged Lagosians to be sceptical of “half-truths” circulated by platforms with questionable motives. He assured the public that the Taskforce remains undeterred by online intimidation and will continue to uphold the law without fear or favour.  #Securitynewsalert.com
