Troops Disrupt Terrorists’ Supply Route, Intercept Couriers With Ammunition In Kogi State

-

Troops of the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army have recorded another operational breakthrough in their ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist logistics networks within their area of responsibility.

According to Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, the operation was the result of sustained intelligence-driven efforts over the past three months.

“Our troops have intensified operations aimed at cracking down on terrorists and denying them freedom of movement. This latest interception underscores the vigilance and proactive posture of the Brigade,” Abdullahi stated.

On 29 March 2026, troops deployed along Road Jamata–Owara in Lokoja Local Government Area intercepted a suspected terrorist logistics courier riding a motorcycle. A search revealed a concealed compartment specially modified for the covert conveyance of ammunition. Preliminary findings linked the suspect to known terrorist elements, prompting follow-on operations.

Building on that success, troops arrested high-profile terrorist courier Mathew Elisha (alias Nasara), who had long been on security watch lists. This paved the way for another major interception on 20 April 2026, following credible intelligence on the movement of terrorist logistics elements.

Troops deployed at Response Area Oshokoshoko mounted a snap checkpoint along Road Obajana–Kabba in Lokoja LGA. They intercepted a Toyota bus en route from Makurdi to Obajana, arresting two suspected couriers, identified as Mallam Zubairu Abubakar and Adamu Abubakar Abdullahi.

A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered a sack containing 314 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, three AK-47 rifle magazines concealed behind the driver’s seat, and other items, including mobile phones, identification documents, and personal effects.

“The suspects and recovered items have been handed over to the 12 Military Intelligence Regiment for further investigation and necessary action,” Abdullahi confirmed.

The Nigerian Army emphasised that the successful interception highlights its commitment to disrupting terrorist supply chains and safeguarding communities in Kogi State and beyond. #Securitynewsalert.com
