IGP Disu Partners with Education Ministry to Launch Ogun POLAC Campus and Upgrade National Police Colleges

-

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, convened a high-level strategic meeting at the Federal Ministry of Education on Monday to finalise the establishment of a new Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC) campus in Ogun State.

The summit, which marked a significant turning point for police reform, focused on a dual-track strategy: launching the Ogun State annex and executing a comprehensive overhaul of the 42 Police Colleges across the federation to secure full academic accreditation.

Hosting the delegation, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, alongside the Honourable Minister of State for Education, DDr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad expressed a firm commitment to integrating police training into the national tertiary framework. The presence of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun (Rtd) further underscored the continuity and national priority of the initiative.

“Our vision is to bridge the gap between tactical proficiency and academic excellence,” IGP Disu stated during the session. “By transforming these institutions, we are not just renovating buildings; we are building a modern, service-oriented Force. We must produce officers who are equipped to address the complexities of 21st-century security challenges with the highest level of integrity.”

A central pillar of the reform involves a strategic partnership with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to finance the construction of state-of-the-art facilities. Stakeholders also engaged in detailed coordination with the National Universities Commission (NUC) to ensure that resource verification for the new campus meets rigorous international standards.

Looking ahead, the Ministry and the Force leadership have set an ambitious but firm timeline to have the Ogun State campus fully operational for the 2026 academic session.

Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa noted the importance of the collaboration, saying, “Education is the bedrock of professional discipline. Providing the Nigeria Police Force with the infrastructure and accreditation they deserve ensures that the next generation of leadership is both intellectually grounded and operationally ready.”

This initiative is expected to fundamentally reshape the recruitment and training pipeline, ensuring that the transition from recruit to officer is supported by a robust, accredited curriculum that balances classroom rigour with field expertise. #Securitynewsalert.com
