Lagos Police Rescues 4 Kidnapped Children at Bus Terminal, Begins Hunt for Fleeing Suspect

-

In a significant victory against child trafficking, operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have rescued four kidnapped children at the Alafia Bus Terminal in the Coker-Orile area of the state.

The rescue, which took place late Friday night, was confirmed in a statement released on May 10, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi.

According to the Command, the rescue occurred at approximately 11:40 PM on May 8, 2026. A routine patrol team noticed a woman acting suspiciously while attempting to board a luxury bus destined for a location outside Lagos. Upon sighting the Police patrol team, the suspected trafficker abandoned the children and fled the scene to an unknown destination.

Preliminary findings indicate that the children had been abducted from the Ijesha-Tedo area of Lagos. The suspect reportedly intended to smuggle them out of the state under the cover of darkness before the timely intervention of the officers. The Command took the children into protective custody and successfully traced their families; the victims have since been reunited with their parents.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, praised the alertness and professionalism of the patrol officers. He emphasised that the operation aligns with the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding vulnerable persons.

Moving forward, the Commissioner urged parents and guardians to maintain constant vigilance regarding the whereabouts of their children. He also called on the public to report any unusual activities or suspicious movements involving minors to the nearest police station immediately.

Investigations are currently ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and identify any accomplices involved in the kidnapping ring.
