Enugu CP Warns Officers Against Misconduct, Orders Adherence to Professionalism

-

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has issued a stern warning to officers and supervisory commanders in the state command, declaring that he would not shield any personnel involved in misconduct or unprofessional conduct.

Speaking during the Command’s Monthly Strategic Conference held on May 7, 2026, at the Senior Police Officers Mess, Agbani Road, Enugu, the police commissioner charged senior officers to closely monitor their subordinates and ensure strict discipline across formations and divisions.

“I won’t take responsibility for anybody’s stupidity,” Giwa said, stressing that officers must “sit up and ensure utmost professionalism and discipline” in the discharge of their duties.

The conference was attended by Deputy and Assistant Commissioners of Police, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, as well as heads of tactical units, formations, sections and departments within the command.

According to the commissioner, officers must uphold professionalism, respect for human rights and responsible conduct while carrying out policing duties in the state.

Giwa also conveyed key directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, issued during a recent emergency meeting with senior police officers nationwide.

He said the directives emphasised intelligence-led policing, discipline, professionalism and improved public engagement.

The police boss warned that acts such as extortion, corruption, abuse of office, unlawful detention and incivility would not be tolerated in the command.

“Erring officers will face disciplinary actions in line with extant laws and police regulations,” he warned.

He further urged personnel to remain committed to proactive policing and sustaining public safety across Enugu State.
