The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Lagos State Command has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening security and safety in schools across the state through sustained sensitisation and collaboration under the Safe School Initiative.
Speaking during an engagement with teachers and pupils of Guided Path School at the command headquarters in Alausa on Thursday, the Lagos State Commandant of the corps, Mr Adedotun Keshinro, said the command remained committed to protecting schoolchildren, teachers and host communities from security threats and social vices.
Keshinro stated that the command was focused on promoting school safety through “strategic, effective and productive collaboration with all relevant stakeholders” under the Safe School Initiative.
The command hosted 17 pupils and three teachers from Guided Path School during an educational field trip aimed at exposing the students to the duties of the corps, citizenship values and security awareness.
During the visit, officers of the Safe School and Legal Units educated the pupils on issues relating to school security, civic responsibility and the statutory functions of the corps.
Assistant Commandants Helen Gady and Adebimpe Bada also sensitised the students on the dangers of violence, bullying, gangsterism, cultism, smoking, harassment and assault.
The interactive session further provided the pupils and teachers with insights into the history, organisational structure, uniforms and operational responsibilities of the corps.
Director of Guided Path School, Mrs Lasaki Rizqah, commended the Lagos command for the educational initiative, noting that the sensitisation programme had enhanced the pupils’ understanding of school safety, civic responsibility and national security.
