The Nigeria Police Force Special Protection Unit (SPU) has convened a strategic meeting with its management team and Commanding Officers from all 31 SPU Bases across the country as part of efforts to strengthen operational effectiveness and align with the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
The meeting, held on Thursday at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, was presided over by Olufemi Haruna.
During the session, participants deliberated on issues bordering on discipline, professionalism, operational readiness, and strict compliance with standard operating procedures, particularly ahead of forthcoming election security operations.
The discussions also focused on the Federal Government’s directive concerning the withdrawal of police personnel attached to unauthorised VIP duties, as well as the importance of regular training, comprehensive arms audits, and accountability in personnel deployment.
The SPU leadership further highlighted plans for the establishment of a dedicated SPU Headquarters and Training School to boost the Unit’s operational and tactical capabilities.
Commanding Officers were also urged to strengthen supervision, prioritise personnel welfare, and ensure strict compliance with existing regulations, especially in view of recent firearm-related incidents.
