The Oyo State Police Command has moved to quell growing anxiety among residents after rumours of a curfew and movement restrictions in Ibadan began circulating online and in some communities.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said in a statement on Friday that there is currently no curfew or restriction placed on the movement of persons or vehicles within or outside Ibadan, describing the reports as false and misleading.
“The Command unequivocally assures residents and the general public that there are no security concerns warranting panic or apprehension,” the statement read.
According to the Command, adequate security measures are already in place, with officers and operatives strategically deployed across Oyo State to ensure the safety of all citizens and residents.
Authorities also issued a stern warning to individuals and groups against spreading unverified information capable of causing public panic. Anyone found engaging in such conduct, the Command said, would be investigated and prosecuted.
Residents were urged to disregard the misleading reports and go about their lawful activities without fear. The Command also clarified that any genuine security directive or emergency measure would be communicated officially through the Police Public Relations Office and verified media channels.
“In the event of any official security directive, restriction, or emergency measure, such information will be communicated through the Office of the Police Public Relations Officer and disseminated via conventional and digital media platforms bearing verifiable identities and official channels,” the statement added.
