A 70-year-old grandfather was murdered in his own room by his 26-year-old grandson in what a senior police officer has described as a shocking act of betrayal.
Ibrahim Maisaje was stabbed to death on May 17, 2026, at approximately 4:30 p.m. in his home at Sabon Kariya Village, Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State. The suspect, Bashar Aliyu, 26, is his grandson.
Force New Media Spokesman, Aliyu Giwa, who disclosed the incident, said the circumstances of the death were deeply disturbing.
“A 70-year-old grandfather was killed in his room by his grandson,” Giwa said.
According to Giwa, police responded promptly to the scene and transported the victim to General Hospital in Kafin Madaki, where a doctor confirmed his death.
Bashar Aliyu was subsequently arrested, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi for further investigation.
Giwa said the killing defied easy description.
“After seventy years of overcoming challenges, his life was ended in his own home by someone he helped raise,” he said. “This loss is deeply felt and difficult to put into words.”
The police officer was unequivocal in condemning the act and affirming the Force’s commitment to accountability.
“The Force leadership strongly condemns this act and assures the family and community that justice will be pursued fully, lawfully, and without compromise,” Giwa said.
He also extended condolences directly to the deceased’s loved ones.
“To the family of Ibrahim Maisaje: Your father, grandfather, and elder deserved to pass away surrounded by love, not betrayal. May he rest in eternal peace,” Giwa said.
The motive behind the killing has not yet been disclosed. Investigations are ongoing.
